A one-legged cash machine raider and his five accomplices, were jailed yesterday for a £400,000 nationwide crime spree. Armed with angle-grinders and crowbars, the hooded crooks operated in teams and often conducted several raids per night, sometimes removing an entire cash dispensing machine. They concluded their 7-month spree in January 2008, carrying out at least 24 raids, pocketing an estimated £200,000, and leaving behind a similar bill for damages. Torbay mayor Nick Bye has made four visits to the scenic Devon port of Brixham to view work-in-progress on a new multi-million-pound fish quay and market building. Mr Bye, who also hopes to become an MP, said Its exciting to see things at the fish quay taking shape and to see it happening so quickly. It really will put Brixham on the map, particularly with the seafood restaurant as well. The key is to get the value in the town, to boost the towns economy rather than shipping everything away as quickly as it comes out of the water. Rescue teams searching for a man who fell from a boat into the River Dart near Totnes early Saturday morning have found a body.
